Course description

As the late Steve Jobs said, 'Great things in business are never done by one person, they are done by a team of people'. With increasing challenges and change in local government, this five hour virtual workshop on Microsoft Teams is for anyone who leads a team of people and will examine some big ideas and essential skills.

Training objectives

The course includes:

  • What a team is and isn't

  • What a team needs to perform at its best

  • The role of psychological safety in team performance

  • How a team develops

  • The value of a clearly defined vision and how it aids decision making

  • What motivates people and why you need to ask 'why' more than 'what' or 'how'.

  • How to be consistently different with people to get the best out of them

  • The difference between healthy and negative conflict

  • Learning to ask more than tell

Learning outcomes

Overall aim of this seminar is to introduce the participants to some useful ideas and writers on this subject and encourage them to implement best team leadership practices.

By the end of the workshop, we want you to:

  • Create the conditions to optimise your team's performance

  • Facilitate the co-creation of a compelling team vision

  • Manage different team members according to their motivations and skills

  • Confidently tackle negative conflict and poor behaviour

  • Start asking and listening more than you tell and direct
