All prospective carers should complete this training before they are approved as Foster Carers. This course provides basic minimum training only. This course consists of TWO training sessions when delivered over a weekend.
To provide participants with information about the knowledge, skills and abilities they need to foster
To assist participants to reflect on their values and attitudes to caring for Looked After Children
To provide opportunities to think about how fostering will impact on their families and way of life
To assist them to decide whether or not fostering is right for them.
Where a couple are seeking approval, it is important for both to attend training sessions together. Material will be provided to use in discussion with your family and will provide evidence for your assessment and CWDC Workbook. Please do share any worries or concerns with your Supervising Social Worker before you attend. The Learning & Development Officer should be made aware of any special needs.
When you arrive through the main entrance you will be asked to sign in at reception. Due to access restrictions you will not be able to come to the training room on your own, therefore at 9.55am I will come to reception to meet you and escort you to the training room.
Please bring something that is precious to you to the first day of training.
The course will take place in Gatcombe House, Copnor Road, Portsmouth, Hants. PO3 5EJ.
There is plenty of free parking on site.
