Course description

This is a 2 hour facilitated session on Microsoft Teams, open to any member of staff.

The facilitator will send you the event link shortly before the session.

Work can be rich with opportunity. Through work we can learn and grow, develop and contribute, build our careers, earn our living and provide for our family. It can also be challenging, demanding and exhausting; never more so than in having to adapt recently to the profound changes brought about by Covid-19.

Everyone has to cope with the stresses and strains of work and everyday life, you will have developed coping mechanisms that help you deal with familiar adverse situations and many unfamiliar ones. Some of your coping mechanisms however, aren't so effective and can sometimes make situations worse. What separates those who can hold their own and keep going in times of adversity is a cluster of habits that centre on resilience. This workshop will explore what resilience is and the habits that strengthen your resilience enabling you to:

• Deal with pressure and handle stress
• Maintain your motivation and engagement
• Develop and sustain self-esteem
• Bounce back from set-backs and disappointments
• Transform your work life

Training objectives

The workshop explores 5 dimensions of resilience, the physical, psychological, social, professional and spiritual. In each dimension you will learn how making small, achievable changes – in mind-set, approach, conduct and daily practice – can significantly enhance your resilience and wellbeing.

This is an informal exploration of the topic and we're keen to draw on the experiences of the participants.

Questions we'll discuss at the session include:

  • what have you been doing to build your resilience in the past year?

  • what has been particularly difficult / enjoyable about working from home?

  • anything surprising about the experience?

  • what have you learnt about yourself through this period?

  • what do you need as we move into the new normal?

Give these questions some thoughts before you attend.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop we want you to be able to:

  • Define what resilience is

  • Identify the habits and behaviours of resilient people

  • Reflect on the practices and beliefs that either support or undermine your resilience and wellbeing

  • Adopt practices that build your resilience

The trainer will encourage the participants to put different strategies and new behaviours into practice post event.
