Course overview:
This 1¾ hour session gives a complete overview of the work of the IWT
in helping the residents of Portsmouth keep well, stay independent and active in the community. The session covers our team purpose, approach, ways of working and client group(s).

 

Target Audience: 

All staff, volunteers and community organisations and members working with people who are living independently within their community or those who have the capacity to regain the ability to do so.

This new course for all staff explores what it takes to make the most of our abilities so that we achieve what we want, whilst being true to our values. The course will be loosely structures around the first three habits of Stephen Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective People:

The training will be highly interactive with opportunities for personal reflection and action planning.

Course overview:

Cultural awareness is essential for anybody working with the diverse community in Portsmouth. This course provides an overview of ethnic minority demographics within Portsmouth and an introduction to larger communities and their culture.

Participants will gain insight into people from other cultures enhancing their self-awareness and develop their confidence in working with people from different backgrounds. The course also explores some of the barriers ethnic minority communities face when accessing services, ideas on how to overcome these and aspects of mental health and wellbeing within different cultures.

 Connect 5: 5 Ways to Mental Health and Wellbeing

Connect 5 is an accredited mental health promotion training programme that is designed to increase the confidence and skills of front line staff. The training will support staff to have conversations with people that they work with about:

• Mental health and wellbeing
• Help people to manage mental health needs
• Increase their resilience and mental wellbeing through positive changes
• Provide signposting to local service

Connect 5 aims to support workers, volunteers and organisations in promoting better mental health and wellbeing for the people they work with.

Connect 5 courses are interactive and practical, drawing upon the latest evidence about supporting people with their mental health and wellbeing. The courses support participants to gain skills and confidence and information about practical interventions so as to be able to respond helpfully to people experiencing poor mental health and wellbeing.

Harmful sexual behaviours (HSB) can provoke considerable anxiety in parent/carers and porfessionals. This one day course aims to demystify this whole area of work, increase awareness and empower carers and professionals to use transferable skills when manageing children and young people who present with HSB.

The training will provide professionals with a theoretical background about the development of sexual behaviour problems, and guidance on what works. It will also consider the impact on adults who are trying to manage a child or young person displaying HSB.
