Code: PCC/20/266 Resilience Awareness (Cancelled)

The workplace can be rich with opportunity. It's a place where we can learn and grow, develop and contribute, build our careers, earn our living and provide for our family. It can also be challenging, demanding and exhausting.

Everyone has to cope with the stresses and strains of work and everyday life. Challenges and change are a constant for all of us. Some of these involve taking some degree of risk, while some may be crises or emergencies that demand our immediate attention.

You will have developed coping mechanisms during your life that help you deal with familiar adverse situations and many unfamiliar ones. Some of your coping mechanisms however, aren't so effective and can even make situations worse.

What separates those who can hold their own and keep going in times of adversity is a cluster of habits that centre on resilience. This workshop will explore what resilience is and the habits that strengthen your resilience enabling you to:

• Deal with pressure and handle stress
• Maintain your motivation and engagement
• Develop and sustain self-esteem
• Bounce back from set-backs and disappointments
• Transform your work life

N.B. There is a Resilience & Wellbeing module on the Intranet featuring videos and downloadable resources.

Code: PCC/19/1197 Safer Recruitment (EVENT FULL)

Organisations that provide services to children are required to incorporate into their recruitment and selection procedures measures that help deter, reject or identify people who might abuse children, or otherwise be unsuited to work with them.

Making safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children an integral part of human resources management in organisations that work with children is an essential part of creating safe environments.

Following the 2004 Bichard Inquiry Report there are legal duties on schools, FE colleges and a wide range of partner organisations to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

For schools, Bichard specifically recommended that:

  • Head teachers and school governors should receive training on how to ensure that interviews to appoint staff reflect the importance of safeguarding children
  • No interview panel to appoint staff working in schools and colleges should be convened without at least one member being properly trained
